چکیده مقاله
Internship, the bridge between theory and practice in teacher education, is an indispensable component of teacher training across the globe. Therefore, comparative examination of teachers’ internship is naturally expected to contribute to teacher training programs and may mutually benefit the education system of the two countries by providing new insights. This study used a library-based descriptive method to compare English teachers’ internship in Iran and Turkey. Notwithstanding the common cultural background of the two countries, Iran and Turkey have distinct educational systems and ideologies which affect their teacher education programs. The results indicated that since internship is a priority for both countries, and teachers play a determining role, both countries have set out clearly-delineated scheme for internship. However, the quality and quantity of internship courses as well as the related prerequisite courses differ widely across the two nations. Pathologically speaking, internship in both countries suffers from some challenges including mentor teachers’ experience, theoretical orientation of internship programs, and failure to implement the internship programs as planned. The findings may contribute to enhancing internship practices in the two countries and resolving some weaknesses in this realm.
