Abstract This study aimed to explore the effects of using podcasts on listening comprehension among Iranian high school EFL learners. To satisfy the objectives of the study a homogeneity test (Oxford Solutions Placement Test) was administered to ninety female students in the tenth grade of Efaf High School in Ardabil and sixty participants at the pre-intermediate level were selected. These learners were divided into two groups, control and experimental. A valid adopted listening comprehension test was administered to the participants as a pre-test to assess their listening comprehension before the treatment sessions. Then, the experimental group received the treatment, teaching listening comprehension through using podcasts, whereas the control group was tutored following Communicative Language Teaching premises including question and answer, explanation, role play, and class discussion. After twenty sessions of treatment, a modified version of the pre-test was administered as the post-test. The descriptive and inferential statistics results showed that the experimental group significantly outperformed the control group. The results suggest students, educators, and curriculum developers use podcasts in English classes to help improve listening comprehension among Iranian EFL learners. |
