Listening is the most important and the basis skill in English language learning. However, it has been a problematic one because there is no exact rule in teaching it. Most of these studies have been worked on listening skills. However, this study delves into the role of podcast in enhancing listening subskills, listening for gist and listening for details among lower intermediate EFL learners, and its effectiveness on these subskills. In this regard, the total number of 16 university students were selected based on their proficiency level through Oxford Placement Test (OPT). They were assigned to control group and experimental group through simple random sampling. Before taking the pre-test, a pilot test was done with four Iranian EFL learners, having the same features as the main participants, to check the feasibility of the pre-test. Both of the groups have taken the pre-test. The experimental group were given TED Podcasts which was 15 fifteen-minute sessions held three times a week. At the end, both groups have taken a post-test to explore the effect of Podcast on listening subskills. At the end, 5 of the students were invited to take part in a semi-structured interview to figure out what their opinions are in this regard. A t-test and a thematic coding analysis were employed to analyze the collected data. The quantitative data was indicated that the experimental group outweighed the control group. Also, the qualitative data was demonstrated that participants had a positive attitude toward listening to Podcast. |
