چکیده مقاله
This study aims at shedding light on the process by which a professional language teacher is supposed to be developed through the eyes of socio-cultural perspective and the issues arising in accomplishment of such a pursuit. The status of the second or third/n language acquisition has been revolutionized due to the spread of the sociocultural theory as a new paradigm and the world-wide acceptance of diversity and emergence of local voice in the global community. Such a speedy snowball has increased the need to understand the reality of having a mutual communicative artefact as a prerequisite for cognitive and linguistic development. On the other side, language teaching and learning has been viewed traditionally as either a set of discrete grammatical rules and a bunch of vocabularies, or a series of communicative acts which in turn lead to teacher training programs targeting preparation of teachers competent in such content and pedagogical knowledge. Needless to say, such a condition is far away from the actual scene of the real educational settings and language teaching. Concerning the mentioned platform from either side, there are a plethora of fundamental issues in the process of developing proficient and professional language teachers. This study attempts to have a look at second language teacher education through SCT paradigm. Furthermore, the probable areas of challenges in second language teacher education which may lead to the development of language teachers who are not compatible with such approach is explored and some tentative solutions to these issues are suggested.
