The effect of teacher motivational strategies on EFL students' self -esteem

چکیده مقاله
Despite growing research on the role of students‟ self-esteem in language learning, the effect of
teachers‟ motivational strategies on self-esteem has received scant attention in prior research. To
this end, 60 students were recruited for this quasi-experimental using convenience sampling.
were placed into one experimental and one control group. The experimental group received the
motivational strategies. Data for this study were gathered from students through the Nelson test
and self-esteem questionnaire. The Nelson test was used to homogenize the students in terms of

proficiency. The questionnaire assessed the students‟ level of self-esteem before and after a ten-
week intervention. It consisted of exposure to motivational strategies. The data collected in this

study were analyzed through Independent-Samples t-tests and One-Way ANCOVA. The results
indicated that the experimental group significantly outperformed the control group on the
posttest of self-esteem after controlling for the effect of the pretest. The findings of this thesis
can be utilized to assist instructors in understanding how teacher motivation strategies affect
learner self-efficacy. The findings of this study can be used by teacher trainers to provide
realistic guidelines for employing teacher motivation strategies.
