چکیده مقاله
Self-taught learners are individuals who take it upon themselves to acquire knowledge and skills independently, often outside of traditional educational settings. Among these language learners, some have attained high levels of proficiency. This matter arose the question of how these learners have reached this competence without any formal instruction. This qualitative action research explored the influential factors affecting their learning process to attain this commendable competence. The required data were gathered through semi-structured interviews conducted with four self-taught learners whose English level was at advanced or upper-intermediate level. The analysis of interview data revealed that the underlying factors were classified as three major grounds; peripheral factors, individual factors, and applied strategies and materials, which are highlighted for each specific skill. The findings of this research can be practical for teachers who want to propose methods of learning the English language and for learners who want to learn this language as self-taught.
